Mental Health is a very subjective and diverse experience. Each person has their own journey quite distinct from others. Yet, struggle is struggle. The intensity might differ but so are our limitations of taking it in. Whatever the form or intensity,it is essential to deal with it in a proper manner.
Do you know what it's like to have your thoughts keep you awake, night after night? You wake up exhausted the next morning and the vicious cycle continues. You struggle to break out of it.
It is at certain times that you realize what an enemy your mind has become to your mental health and wellbeing.
You struggle to concentrate on the basic tasks at hand. All you wish for is to sleep. Sleep becomes a means of escape and you sleep with the hopes that you'd never wake up.
Dealing with mental health issues is very difficult. You don't know what you can do to defeat the demons of the mind. You can try various ways but each situation requires a different approach. What might help today might not be as useful tomorrow.
What do you do, then?
You could resort to escapism. Read books, watch movies, shows and the like, drink or whatever it is that you do to escape the dungeons of your mind. I have nothing against escapism. After all, you've got to do what helps you to cope. However, in the long term, the issue remains unresolved and it piles up, and up until one day, you realize that you've let it get too far. It all gets too much! The means of escape entice you no longer and you are left floundering with the huge pile of unresolved issues.
It is somewhat like the garbage. You need to take it out frequently or the mess is too much to clean at once. It gets smelly and bothersome. If left alone, it might be requiring even greater effort to clean up and undo the damages.
That brings me to the question of what you can do about it.
Have a mechanism in place to deal with your issues, be it talking with someone you trust or writing it in your journal or whatever works for you. It is essential to be completely honest about it, with yourself. If you are in denial, there is no force in the world that can help you. Escaping is alright as long as you realize that it might not be the best solution for solving the issue in the long term. Everything in moderation is fine.
So my wish for you is this.
I hope you have the courage to overcome whatever you are dealing with. It's not just "in your mind". It is real. You're not doing it for attention, you only seek refuge. You deserve to live and be loved. Your mind might be convincing you otherwise but it is not true. You are worthy and not a waste of space. The world is fortunate to have your contribution.
Go live your dreams, no matter how improbable it seems. The path is filled with challenges but none insurmountable. You have what it takes to overcome the hurdles and emerge a stronger and better version of yourself. Don your armour and slay the dragons. You deserve the happiness.
